A tale of two Nénuphars

We are back from a glorious 5 weeks in Canada and I have a bit of catching up to do on the blogging front! I was sewing like a maniac before our trip (aided in big part by an unexpected 3 1/2 week break between jobs and pre-holiday), and didn't get a chance to blog about most of it. So here goes...

First up, the Deer and Doe Nénuphar Jacket...

As part of my mini Deer and Doe patterns shopping spree recently, I bought the Nénuphar Jacket pattern. It was originally just supposed to be for a friend who wanted a 'kimono-style' jacket, but it didn't take long for me to decide to make one for myself. I don't usually wear jackets in Singapore, but thought it could be a good for travel, and for the overly-air-conditioned offices and restaurants in Singapore!

J and I went shopping and found the most beautiful organic cotton sateen from Cloud9 Fabrics (this Field and Sky collection by Yao Cheng), and it was hard to leave the store with just 2 pieces of fabric. The cotton sateen is SO luxurious to the touch...I seriously could have an entire wardrobe made of just that fabric.

The Nénuphar has lovely little details (like the notched collar) and is a fairly straightforward sewing project. Since the fabric we chose was quite busy, I left off the pockets, and made the shorter sleeved version.

J chose a trendy botanical print, and I couldn't resist the soft watercolour look of the second one. I made a size 38 with no adjustments and it fits perfectly.

Having worn this several times while on holiday, I can attest to both the comfort of the pattern as well as the fabric. I've already bought a wrinkle linen from Blackbird Fabrics to make another one!

Of course, I'm tempted to just get more of this cotton sateen because it's just SO SO nice...
